Anyone who is pregnant should be prepared for a c-section, you just never know. However, there is no magic blood pressure number that will determine whether or not you get a c-section. If your doctor determines its time to deliver you they will try to induce you first and try and give you the best chance possible for a vaginal delivery. If you aren’t progressing, or the baby’s heart rate drops, or your blood pressure continues to elevate then they will do a c-section. If you weren’t planning on taking an epidural be prepared that your doctor will want you to take one because it helps to bring your blood pressure down while you are in labor.

My blood pressure in the last couple weeks of my pregnancy was 140/90, i was on bedrest, and was told i had to lay flat, and if i didn’t deliver by my due date they would induce me… but never mentioned anything about a c-section. good thing i had him 2 days early! but ya, i think they would only do a c-section if your blood pressure gets too high during labour where they would need to do an emergency c-section, probably around 160/90+…

How far along are you? that may be something that your dr is taking into consideration as well. They have to weigh out your health and that of the baby and do what is best from there.

Mine was 160/111 when they gave me a c-section, but my son’s heartbeat was also fading so I’m not quite sure. Are you swelling and having full out toxemia or just the blood pressure?

Ask your doctor to find out for sure. Most likely if your blood pressure does not go down with the medication you will have to have a c section.
